German-born Kenyan fencer Alexandra Ndolo finished in 41st position in her individual event - women’s epee - in the FIE Satellite St Duje’s Cup in Split, Croatia on Sunday 15 October 2023.
The 2022 World Championships silver medalist, who is also Africa’s top seed, was tied top in Pool 2 - which also acted as the competition’s first round - after winning four of her head to head matches with a +7 indicator with Ukraine’s Sofiia Sidenko.
Her finish there propelled her to the second round of the competition where she received a first round bye and subsequently marked her appearance in the Round of 64, that she lost to Ukraine’s Kseniya Pantelyeyeva in a score of 15-14 touches.
The defeat marked her last appearance in the competition organized by the Croatian Fencing Federation, seeing her rank 41 in overall results.
The overall winner was Katrina Lehis of Estonia, followed up by her country-mates Nelli Differt and Irina Embrich.
Reacting to her performance on social media, Ndolo posted: “Definitely not the result I was aiming for but good feedback for the first World Cup in Italy next month. On to the next one. Thanks to NOC-K for the support.”
Still in contention for a place in the 2024 Paris Olympics next summer, Ndolo is set to participate in the Coupe du Monde World Cup in Legnano on 10-11 November 2023.
Her last competition saw her finish 11th in the 2023 Milan Fencing World Championships in Milan, Italy.
The World Number 14 is among the athletes whose pathway is a priority with very high chances of doing well in the Olympics.
